Otavalo Country Tour

A two hour drive to one of the world’s most famous markets at Otavalo, where you can bargain with the colorful natives for weavings, blankets, embroidered items and local jewelry. En-route stops at Calderon, noted for miniature figurines fashioned out of bread dough, Cotacachi, dedicated to fine leather goods and San Antonio, the woodcarving center. Lunch at a hacienda.

Highland Haciendas

A stay at a highland hacienda is the "inn attraction" north of Quito. The two hour drive offers spectacular scenery with stops en-route at handicraft villages. Stops include Cotacachi for leather, Peguche for weavings, Calderon for the famous bread dolls and San Antonio de Ibarra for woodcarvings. Spend at least a night at one of the elegant haciendas dating back to the 1700s and plan a visit to the nearby, world reknowned Otavalo market.

Cotopaxi plus Hacienda
Full day Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from Quito, includes CHIVA EXPRESS ride and lunch in a hacienda in the area
Ride the CHIVA EXPRESS, a one-coach train, to the station of Machachi at the foot of the Cotopaxi volcano, where a snack will be served. Then ascend by motor coach to the moorlands for a short hike and close contact with this unique ecosystem. Enjoy lunch at a hacienda. There will be time to horseback ride, birdwatch or explore the surroundings on foot before the return to Quito in the afternoon.

Tuesday and Thursday departures
Day 1: Departure from Quito by bus, via the Avenue of the Volcanos with a stop at a local market Latacunga or Saquisili, followed by lunch at a lovely hosteria, overnight Rio Bamba.
Day 2: Depart to Alausi to board the train to Cuenca. En-route experience the famous switchback of the Devils Nose. Leave the train in the el Tambe and drive by bus to Ingapirca. Ecuador’s most important archaeological site. Overnight in Cuenca.
Day 3: A full day to get acquainted with Cuenca, its cobblestone streets, beautiful balconies and flowered plazas, considered Ecuador’s most beautiful colonial city. Day 4: Transfer to airport for flight to quito or Guayaquil.

Accessible only by air and canoe, Kapawi consists of 20 double thatched cottages, all with private baths, sun heated showers and a wide terrace overlooking Kapawi Lake, where you can observe the daily visitors, ducks, hummingbirds, egrets, parrots and some of the more the 500 species of birds in the area.

Activities are varied and can be individually designed with your guide to meet your interests and physical condition.
